Both Rock Springs and Green River Will Be Represented in Saturday’s Finals

GILLETTE – Both Rock Springs and Green River will be represented in the finals as the 2015 Wyoming State Tennis Championships conclude on Saturday.

Overall, the Green River boys team used strong doubles play as they currently sit in second place as a team. Gillette holds the top spot with 33 points, 13 ahead of the Wolves. Jackson is tied with Green River in the second spot while Powell and Central round out the top five for the boys. The Tigers are currently in 10th overall.

On the girl’s side, the Lady Tigers have used strong performances in both singles and doubles to stay in the top ten. Cheyenne Central leads the way followed by Gillette who are nine points behind. Only three points separate the three through five place teams, Sheridan, Cody and Laramie.

The Lady Tigers sit just outside the top five in the sixth position while Green River is outside the top 10 sitting in 13th overall.

Individual results

Lady Tiger Zoe Baldwin will battle for a No. 2 Singles consolation title on Saturday. She beat Natrona’s Leslie Briscoe and Powell’s Hattie Pimentel to make it to the finals. She will take on Katelynn Brooks from Sheridan. Brooks beat Baldwin on the opening day of the tournament in a match that could have gone either way, 6-4 and 7-6 (7-5).

In the Boy’s No. 1 Doubles, the Wolves team of Mikesell and Ebert will go after a state title on Saturday. They beat the Gillette team of Myers and Myers in the semifinals Friday, 6-3, 2-6, 7-6. The will face the Jackson team of Frank and Fairbanks for the title.

In the boy’s No. 2 Doubles it will be the Marchals who will be chasing a title. They were able to beat the team from Cody to move into the finals. They will face the team of Seamans and Hays from Gillette for the title. The Gillette team beat the Tiger team of Rawson and Baldwin in the other semifinal match Friday.

Rawson and Baldwin rebounded from the loss to move into the consolation finals with a win over the team from Sheridan, 6-4, 2-6, 6-2. They will face Jackson for a consolation title on Saturday. The Tigers beat the same team to earn a spot in the semifinals.

The No. 3 Wolves doubles team of Carollo and Lee will play for a consolation title. They lost to the team from Cody in the semifinals on Friday, 6-0 and 6-4 but came right back in their next match to beat Cody and earn a spot in the finals. They will face the team from Gillette on Saturday.

The Rock Springs Lady Tiger No. 3 doubles team of Justinak and Vigil will play for a state title. They were able to get by the team from Central in a close semifinal contest, 6-1, 6-7 (7-5), 6-4. They will face Gillette in the finals.
