ROCK SPRINGS – While most of the athletic teams at Rock Springs High School were grounded by the bitter cold, one bus made its way out of Rock Springs and to Vernal, Utah, for the Tournament of Champions. The Tigers finished 12th in a large field.

Rock Springs finished with 92.5 points, only 10.5 points out of the top ten. Grand Junction took the team title with 221, followed by Juab at 193.5 and Uintah with 175.

Individually, Rock Springs had several strong finishes led by Cameron Metcalf at 120. He would go 4-1, with two wins by fall, to finish second. Metcalf would come up just short as Green River’s Gage Byers edged him in the finals, 7-3. At 132, RJ Stassinos finished the tournament 4-2 to finish in the fourth position. Ashton Dupape finished sixth at 126 while Wyatt Yenney finished seventh at 152.

The Tigers will not be far from home this weekend as they head to Green River for one of the most anticipated high school tournaments of the year, the Thoman Invitational. The action gets started on Jan. 13.
