Rough Start to State for Lady Wolves

Rough Start to State for Lady Wolves

CASPER – It was not the Green River Lady Wolves night as they fell in three to the top seed from the east to open the 2016 4A State Championship on Thursday. Cheyenne East rolled in game one and never looked back.

East entered on a 10 match winning streak and it was easy to see why from the start. The Lady Thunderbirds dominated in the first set to take an early advantage, 25-13. Green River had a much better showing in the second set but still could not match the firepower. Knowing the Lady Wolves can be dangerous when down, East did everything they needed to and closed out the match with the 25-16 set three win.

Up next for the ladies is a familiar foe in Natrona. Third seed from the east Gillette beat the Fillies in four Thursday, 25-18, 25-22, 21-25 and 25-19. Natrona has three wins over Green River this season. The Fillies won 3-1 in the first matchup in Natrona and escaped Green River with a win in a five-set battle. Last time out, Natrona beat Green River in the semifinals at the 4A West Regional Tournament in three straight.
