RS Mayor Carl Demshar Thanks Community; Tony Corona Honored at International Day

ROCK SPRINGS – After the week Rock Springs had, a good weekend party was just what was needed.

As it is every year, Bunning Park was transformed into a celebration of Rock Springs’ history  and the 56 nationalities who made this community what it is today. On Saturday at International Day, Rock Springs Mayor Carl Demshar spoke to the community.

This week, the community came together and helped their neighbors as a flood left the city a mess. Demshar thanked the community for working together to make sure everyone made it through the challenging time. He thanked everyone who helped put downtown Rock Springs back together and those who bagged sand and delivered it to those in need.

Walking through the event, another theme seemed to surface at this year’s celebration, one of strength and resilience. While International Day is a day to celebrate the city’s history, Demshar said this year the event is a celebration of this community ‘s pride and  strength.

“This is a great community and it showed the way public came out to help,” Demshar said as he told the crowd the event is just what this community needed. “I cannot think of a better day to celebrate International Day.”

The city of Rock Springs and International Day Committee also honored Tony Corona. Corona lives in Denver and has been coming to International Day for the past 14 years.

A surprised Corona thanked the city of Rock Springs for the honor. Corona said he looks forward to the event every year and while he lives in Denver, he said Rock Springs will always be his home.
