ROCK SPRINGS – During December of 2013, Officers of the Rock Springs Police Department received reports from several local gas stations after electronic “skimmers” were located on fuel pumps at their businesses.

A “Skimmer” is a device that is connected to electronics within a pump and obtains and stores the credit card information of customers paying for fuel with a credit and/or debit card. That information is later used by criminals to use the stolen credit card information to make fraudulent purchases.

The Rock Springs Police Department urges anyone who has used a credit or debit card to purchase fuel in Rock Springs in the past two months to examine their credit card bill closely for any purchases that appear fraudulent or unauthorized. If anything suspicious is located, please contact the Rock Springs Police Department.

This investigation is ongoing. If anyone has any information pertaining to this or any case, please contact the Rock Springs Police Department Detective Division at 352-1588.
