SWEETWATER COUNTY – Angela Shutran loves her community. She loves it so much that she tears up when asked why she volunteers so much to make the place better.
“This was a really great community for me to grow up in,” said Shutran. “A lot of people put their time and effort and love into the community to make that for me. I try to do that for others.”
Shutran is a frequent flyer as far as community volunteer work, giving her time to multiple community boards and organizations. That’s why the YWCA declared Shutran one of this year’s Women of Distinction, winning in the category of “Professional Woman of Distinction.”
In her career, Shutran has worked at US Bank for 21 years. She began as a teller and worked her way up to the District Manager for Southwest Wyoming and Branch Manager for Green River.
In her free time, she gives much of her time to the Green River Chamber Board, where she is the Vice President. She has served on numerous committees, including executive, finance, policy manual, business development, and beautification.
She also has been involved with the Community Chest, a non-profit that makes events like Art on the Green and Flaming Gorge Days possible, and the Hole in the Wall Gang, which dresses up in frontier clothing for special events. The list goes on with her involvement with the Sweetwater County Library, Meals on Wheels, the rodeo, and clean-up days.
“People gave back for me. If they didn’t we wouldn’t have had a good place to grow up,” said Shutran. “You look at all the places you could grow up and all the crap that’s out there. I don’t think people realize what a gem we have. I hope if they do, that they find a way to keep it that way. Cuz it’s special.”
