Several Lady Tiger Continue State Play on Friday

GILLETTE – Several Lady Tigers will continue play on Friday in the consolation bracket after the opening day of the 2016 State Tennis Championships.

After the first day, the ladies of Rock Springs sit in 13th place with two points. Laramie currently leads the chase for the team title with 13 points. The Lady Tigers will have both singles players and one doubles team will continue play on Friday.

No. 1 Singles

Keeri Klein lost her only match of the day. After losing in straight sets to open, Klein had a bye in the first round of the consolation bracket. She will face Jackson’s Ellie Kucera on Friday.

 

No. 2 Singles

Maggie Justinak beat Gillette’s Alli Hays in a battle to open the finals. After taking the first set 6-3, Justinak dropped the second, 3-6. In the third and deciding set, Justinak earned a late break and scored the win, 7-5. In the quarterfinals, Cody’s Teagan Thompson handed  Justinak a heartbreaking 7-5 loss. She did not recover as she dropped the second set, 6-1. Justinak will open with Jackson’s Claire Radda on Friday.

 

No. 1 Doubles

After losing the first match, Sasha Bentley  and Alicia Stevens rebounded to beat Natrona in three sets, 6-1, 4-6, 6-2. They will take on the team from Kelly Walsh to open action on Friday.

 

No. 2 Doubles

Michelle Butterfield and Alyssa Vigil lost to a good Cody team to open the tournament and were eliminated by Jackson in straight sets in the consolation bracket.

 

No. 3 Doubles

Amanda Borders  and Courtney Smith opened with a straight-sets loss to Cody to open the tournament. They were eliminated by Torrington in a tough, three-set match, 3-6, 6-3, 6-0.
