GILLETTE – Several local cowboys and cowgirls are heading to Gillette after strong performances at the Wyoming High School State Championships this past weekend.
Big Piney came home with two state championships. Karson Bradley, who was named Rookie All-Around Cowgirl at the NHSFR two years ago, brought home a state championship in Barrel Racing. Rylee Whitman brought home the second title for Big Piney as she took the Girl’s Cutting title. Bradley also qualified in Pole Bending finishing fourth at the state rodeo.
In Saddle Bronc riding, Ira Dickinson just missed a state title. Wheatland’s Tyler Erickson finished with 168 points to take the buckle with Dickinson in second with 123 points.
Kate Dickinson came up one place short of a title in Breakaway Roping. Kate finished second with 167 points. Colorado’s Quincey Segelke won the state championship with 206.75 points. Since rodeo is not a varsity event, competitors can cross state lines and compete for another state.
McKinnon’s Chance Anderson will be heading to National’s finishing third in Steer Wrestling with 185.5 points, Farson’s Neale Jones will also be heading to Gillette for Nationals. He finished fourth in Boy’s Cutting.
Pinedale’s Zackary Winer will be an alternate in Bull Riding after finishing in the fifth spot with 102.5 points.
