GILLETTE – Several Wolves will swim for titles while others will move to Friday morning as the first day of the 4A State Championships has concluded.

To swim for a state title, swimmers had to finish their preliminary heats in the top six places. Two Wolves finished the day with the fastest times while several others will be in the A finals. In the 200 IM, Michael Richmond was almost two seconds faster than the field as he finished the preliminarys in first place. Richmond also touched first in the 100 fly finishing almost a second and a half in front of the second-place swimmer.

In the 100-yard breaststroke, Ethan Moffatt finished with a time of 59.11 to pace the field on the first day of the championships.

Brendan Bloomquist will also have two shots at state titles as he finished in the top six in both the 100 breast and the 50 free. Bloomquist finished two spots behind Moffatt in the 100 breast finishing in third. In the 50 free, he swam a 22.32 to finish in the fifth position.

The divers finished both the prelims and semifinals with several Wolves in the hunt. Four Wolves made the finals led by Coleton Spalding who finished the first day in the third spot. Keyan Moore is currently seventh followed by Miles Moffat in 11th and Alejandro Grajeda in 15th.

Several other Green River swimmers finished in the top 12 in their respective events and will swim in the B-finals on Friday. Dean Lyon finished eighth in the 500 free and the 10th in the 200 free, Ethan Moffatt finished 11th in the 200 IM and Lane Hutchison finished 12th in the 100 free. If someone can’t swim in the 50 free, Hutchison will take their place after finishing 13th.

Logan Johnson just missed swimming on Friday as he finished 15th in the 100 breaststroke.

Several Wolves relay teams will go for titles on Friday.
