SWEETWATER COUNTY – Sheriff Rich Haskell is warning county residents about a scam making the rounds in Sweetwater County.
The ripoff is called the Advance America Payday Loan Scam. Potential victims are contacted by email or phone and told they have been approved for a quick cash loan. When the “loan offer” is accepted, they learn they must pay a fee, using a prepaid card. Once the fee is paid, the victim does not receive the loan and loses the “fee payment.”
At least one local person has been victimized. Avoid falling victim to this scam; remember that no legitimate loan company operates this way. If you are called, hang up. If contacted with an email, delete it.
