ROCK SPRINGS — People seeking mental health or addiction treatment will be able to schedule an intake appointment ahead of time at Southwest Counseling Services.

Starting Monday, people can call SCS during its regular business hours to schedule an intake. The change comes through feedback received from clients and county residents and aims to improve access to care while reducing lobby wait times. The change also helps SCS coordinate appointments and clinician availability.

“Sometimes the hardest part is asking for help,” John Grossnickle, executive director of SCS said. “We don’t want somebody who’s ready for treatment spending hours in a waiting room just to get started. If we can make that part easier, we should.”

The intake process is the first step in getting connected with treatment. Clients meet with a clinician to discuss their concerns, assess their needs and identify appropriate services. Intake paperwork can be completed in person or electronically ahead of the appointment, potentially reducing the time clients spend in the office.

SCS will continue offering its walk-in clinic for those who prefer to come in without an appointment. Walk-in hours are 1-3 p.m. Monday through Thursday at the College Hill office, with clients seen on a first-come, first-serve basis. People can call 352-6680  to schedule an intake. The College Hill office is located at 1124 College Drive.
