Special Weather Statement for Wind Issued for Sweetwater County

SWEETWATER COUNTY — If you thought it was a little windier than normal out there today, you’d be right. The United States National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a special weather statement for the rest of today.

According to the NWS statement, residents can expect “Northwest winds of 35-40 mph gusting 50-55 mph.” Higher wind gusts locally can still occur through 8 p.m.

The lower elevations of western and central Wyoming east of the Continental Divide will be impacted most.

Travel could be impacted by sudden and strong wind gusts, which could result in control issues for lightweight and high-profile vehicles.

While the official special weather statement is only through 8 p.m., Wednesday, November 10, the NWS Riverton Office is predicting the wind will continue impacting the area through Thursday.

“The strongest gusts are most likely to occur Thursday afternoon with speeds around 50 mph possible around Buffalo and 40 to 50 mph in portions of Sweetwater County,” according to a NWS Riverton Office social media post.

“Temperatures will only reach the upper 30s to mid 40s, so the wind will be a chilly one,” the NWS post states.
