State Attorney General Investigating Asphalt Scam

State Attorney General Investigating Asphalt Scam

WYOMING — The Wyoming Attorney General’s Office is also actively investigating an asphalt scam that has already affected residents of Park County as well as other areas of the state. Investigators from the Consumer Protection Unit of the Wyoming Attorney General’s Office are actively investigating incidents in Converse, Natrona, Teton, Lincoln, and Park counties. They have confirmed the pattern of the scam as first reported by this office on September 3.

The scam involves “transient pavers” who claim to be in the area for a very short period of time. They go door-to-door offering unusually inexpensive paving or chip seal services, sometimes claiming that the low price is due to the asphalt being left over from a previous job. When the work is complete, they will ask for more money than their original, verbal estimate. The paving itself is also substandard that does not last.

Residents who have been a victim of this scam should report it to the local law enforcement. Additionally, anyone who has been approached with a similar paving offer or has any information regarding these individuals should contact the Consumer Protection Unit of the Wyoming Attorney General’s Office at 307-777-5833 or via email at [email protected].
