#SWEETREADS: The World Needs More Cowboys

The world needs more cowboys – and we’ve got ‘em.

We all love living in this great state and whenever you need a little reminder of the beauty, freedom and grit of our land and our people, head to the library.

We’ve got the entire Longmire series by Wyoming native Craig Johnson, in books, audiobooks, and Playaways, as well as available for download in ebook or audio form. We also have the Netflix series on DVD.

Every year they hold ‘Longmire Days’ in Buffalo, a multi-day celebration featuring all things Longmire. Even the stars of the show attend. Check some titles out and you’ll be ready.

Cheyenne author C.J. Box’s Joe Pickett series, about a Wyoming game warden is available in all formats as well. A tv series based on the books was just announced so you have plenty of time to work your way through the series before watching.

The Wind River Mystery series by Margaret Coel takes place on the Wind River Reservation and follows Arapaho lawyer Vicky Holden. The series blends Native American history and modern Wyoming and is available in all formats. Noticing a trend here? We like to give you options. You’re welcome.

How About A Good Flick?

Feel like a movie instead? We’ve got plenty of Wyoming spirit on DVD for you. There’s movies set in Wyoming, like Unforgiven with Clint Eastwood, Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, or Quentin Tarantino’s Hateful 8. Other movies were filmed here, so you can watch and get a dose of our beautiful scenery.

This includes everything from the classic Shane (Jackson), Close Encounters of the Third Kindn(Devil’s Tower), Star Trek: the Motion Picture (Mammoth Hot Springs) Rocky IV (the Tetons) and the cult classic Starship Troopers (Hell’s Half Acre). And yep, we’ve got them all.

If you’re just looking for a western feel, we’ve got a whole Western section of books. They might not all be specifically about Wyoming, but the cowboy spirit will definitely make you feel at home.

And if anyone needs a little romance, there are more than a few romance novels with hunky cowboys on the covers. Take your pick.

Finally, if you want more real life knowledge of our favorite state, there’s a whole Western History Collection at the White Mountain Library. You’ll find everything you could ever want to know about our past and even some of our present in that section, including work from local authors like Deana Kouris.

It’s definitely worth wandering through. Just looking at the gorgeous illustrations in some of those books makes it time well spent. So stop in and fill up on Wyoming pride. Go Pokes!!
