ROCK SPRINGS — All it took for one church to answer a call, was hearing there was a need.
During a phone visit with Kathy Silar, Sweetwater County Food Bank director, the topic arose about needs that Food Bank might have. Silar indicated that they were out of flour, sugar, powdered milk and breakfast cereal.
A call was made to the Bishop’s Storehouse, part of the Welfare Program for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Ogden, Utah. They had the needed items and after checking with Silar, an order for $5,000 worth of food was placed.
A second call involved Old Dominion Freight Line. When told of the situation they readily agreed to pick up the food and bring it to Rock Springs.
From there, volunteers sorted it and got the food ready to deliver to the food banks in both Green River and Rock Springs.
While that was happening, four congregations of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, in Green River, were hosting food drives in their church parking lots on the evening of Wednesday, April 22.
On Friday, April 24, the order from Ogden, and six pickup loads of gathered food from the food drive were delivered to the Food Bank, along with monetary donations.
A special thanks is extended to the volunteers who helped handle the food, and to Old Dominion Freight Lines and their employees for the transportation and unloading of the food.
