Sweetwater County’s COVID-19 Positive and Probable Cases Remain Steady

Castle Rock Medical Center reported it has collected 87 COVID-19 tests with 78 returned negative, two positive and seven pending results.

ROCK SPRINGS — The Sweetwater County COVID-19 Emergency Operations Center released its daily report and Sweetwater County’s COVID-19 Coronavirus numbers have remained the same.

Here’s our takeaway of that report.

According to the April 21 report, Sweetwater County still has 10 laboratory-confirmed positive cases and six probable cases of COVID-19 in Sweetwater County. Six of the confirmed cases have recovered. All remaining active patients are in self-isolation and in fair to good condition with mild symptoms treatable from home. So far, no local patients have been hospitalized.

Local Testing

Castle Rock Medical Center reported it has collected 87 COVID-19 tests with 78 returned negative, two positive and seven pending results.

Updated testing numbers from the Memorial Hospital of Sweetwater County were unavailable at the time this report was completed. To date, the hospital has collected 527 COVID-19 tests with 500 returned negative, nine positive and 18 pending results. One of those positive tests was from an out-of-state traveler and doesn’t count toward the county’s total.

College Dorms Part of Emergency Response Plan

The emergency operations center’s unified incident command team announced that a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Western Wyoming Community College has now been approved. The MOU allows for the use of the college dormitories as part of the county’s emergency response plan, should that become necessary.

Mask Donation

The EOC recently received a donation of 1,000 KN95 masks. The EOC’s logistics team will distribute the personal protective equipment as needed to over 20 different Sweetwater County entities, including the hospital, medical centers, clinics, assisted living centers, nursing homes and others.

  • Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
  • Older people and those with health conditions that mean they have a higher chance of getting seriously ill should avoid close-contact situations.
  • Long-term care and healthcare facilities should follow guidelines for infection control and prevention.
