SWEETWATER COUNTY — The Knights of Columbus recently made a donation that will help to keep children warm this winter.
“That first real cold spell hit our area hard and we know it is only the beginning of this year’s winter season,” said Joe Shubert head of the local chapter 2441 of The Knights of Columbus. “It’s getting colder outside and we recognize there are children in need of coats. We have had success with Sweetwater One Public School Foundation in helping to make sure those kids that need them, can get them”, Shubert continued.
Prior to Thanksgiving, local Knights donated new winter coats to the Sweetwater One Foundation to disperse and assist lower income families from surrounding areas. Besides the Sweetwater One Foundation the Knights local chapter also donates coats to other worthy organizations. The coats were donated without charge and the Sweetwater One Foundation works with the administrators to address areas of needs within District 1.
“We were very excited that the local Knights again chose us to help coordinate and distribute the coats that they have provided for students in our district. This years generous allotment of multiple sizes for boys and girls helps us reach more children in need,” said Reed Clevenger, the Director of the Sweetwater One Foundation. “We hope to have all coats delivered within this next week for those in need. The Knights, once again let us know that if we need more, they are here to help where they can. It is always good to see them come to our offices with coats in hand knowing they will provide warmth and a smile to so many kids,” Clevenger continued.
The “Coats for Kids” program is part of the Knights’ “Help a Child in Need” campaign, which began in 2006 with a nationwide appeal during the Christmas season for donations to charities that support the needs of children. Altogether, the Knights of Columbus will distribute more than 12,000 coats this winter across the U.S. and Canada.
