ROCK SPRINGS — After winning the 2021 4A girls soccer title, the Rock Springs High School (RSHS) Lady Tigers added a few awards to the successful season.

Lady Tigers’ midfielder Emily Taucher was named the 2021 Gatorade Girls Soccer Player of the Year, while RSHS Head Coach Stephen Pyer was named the 2021 4A Coach of the Year.

Taucher joins only one other Lady Tiger to ever earn the award in girls soccer, Alyssa Bedard, who won in 2019-20. Only two other Wyoming girls soccer players have won since the launch of the award in 1985.

The award not only focuses on excellence on the field, but also recognizes high standards of academic achievements in the classroom. It looks at a player’s achievement character both on and off the field.

During the 2021 season, Taucher recorded 14 goals and passed for 17 assists. In addition, she is a First Team All-State honoree and a two-time All-Conference selection.

Taucher will be a finalist for the Gatorade National Girls Soccer Player of the Year award.

Lady Tigers Head Coach Pyer was named the 4A Coach of the Year by the Wyoming Coaches Association for the 2021 spring sports season last week.

Since taking over the program in 2015, Pyer has led the Lady Tigers through many successful seasons. Along with this season’s first-ever championship, the team won their fifth consecutive conference title in 2021.

Over the last two seasons, Pyer has coached his team to an impressive 35-3 record. This year’s overall record of 15-2 distinguishes him as this year’s 4A Coach of the Year.
