WASHAKIE AND BIG HORN COUNTIES — The Terek fire, currently burning northeast of Worland, is now estimated to be 40,000+ acres burning in sage and grass.
Sweetwater County Fire Warden Mike Bournazian, one of the local fire authorities being kept abreast of the situation, says that the newest estimates as of noon on July 10 indicate the fire is now at 40,000+ acres.
The fire was reported the night of Sunday, July 8 at 11:02 pm, the cause of which was three separate lightning strikes that have burned together to create one large fire.
According to BLM, over 120 personnel are on site as well as numerous tankers and helicopters. During the last BLM report, the fire was 30% contained.
Crews are in place to protect any threatened structures but no structures have been reported lost at this time. Some homes in the burn area have reportedly been evacuated.
A road closure is currently in place on Highway 31 between Manderson and Hyattville.
Highway 31 is open only to residents in the area and has been closed to all through traffic at this time. The closure is in place to ensure the protection of the public and fire personnel.
