ROCK SPRINGS – The spotlight hit center mat at Rock Springs High School on Wednesday night as the Tiger wrestlers took center stage against Evanston. The Tigers fell to the Red Devils, 60-16, but it was not due to the Tiger’s wrestling but rather the number of open division.

Before the teams even took the mat, Evanston took a 30-point lead with five open divisions. Of the nine division which did take the mat, the Tigers were able to win four.

Trevor Ryan had a short night on Wednesday as he took control quickly and scored the pin at the 1:39 mark. At 120, Danny Macy also took control early and at the end of the second led 14-1. That would be how it would end with Macy taking the major decision.

On of the most exciting matches of the night was at 126 as Tiger Wyatt Martinez squared off against Malek Wagstaff. Neither wrestler was able to get an advantage over the first two periods as the third started with the match even, 1-1. For most of the third, the scored remained even at one. With ten seconds left, Martinez was able to take down and get around Wagstaff to earn the 3-1 win.

William Petrovich was victorious at 145 on Wednesday. Petrovich was able to control the first part of the match and took a 10-5 lead into the third. Evanston’s Isaiah Sowers made it interesting in the third but Petrovich was able to hang on for the 11-8 decision.

The Rock Springs Junior Varsity was able to get a win over Evanston, 21-4. Dawson Lorenz, Slade Pitt, Ira Dickinson and Christian Fennewald all had wins for the Tigers.

The Tigers will head to Lander for a two-day tournament starting Jan. 23 before returning home on Jan. 31.
