ROCK SPRINGS — The City of Rock Springs announced on its Facebook page yesterday its intent to start reopening its buildings to the public after they have been closed due to the COVID-19 Coronavirus pandemic.

Beginning Monday, May 4, City Hall and the Urban Renewal Agency office will open to the public, according to the post. However, there will still be social-distancing measures put in place to ensure the safety of residents and staff.

“We ask that you not enter a city building if you are feeling unwell or have had contact with an infected person,” the post states.

The city is also requiring all patrons to practice physical distancing, and all patrons and staff working with the public will be required to use face coverings. Staff has been instructed not to serve patrons who are not wearing a face covering.

Recreation Centers to Open

The Rock Springs Family Recreation Center and the Rock Springs Civic Center will also open on Monday, but with limited use.

According to another post on the City of Rock Springs Facebook page, patrons can use cardio and weight machines, free weights, gym areas and lap pools, with limitations on the number of people in each area.

In addition, the climbing wall will be open at the Civic Center and also the running track at the recreation center.

Social distancing of 6 feet will be required and it is highly recommended that patrons wear face coverings in the building, as employees will be doing the same.

Unfortunately, some amenities WILL NOT be open to the public until mid-May, per order of the governor:

At both facilities:
Fitness classes are cancelled.
Locker rooms are only open for restroom use.
Personal training is not allowed.
No spotting in weight rooms.
Hot tubs & saunas are closed.

At Recreation Center specifically:
Wee Care is not open.
Boxing/sparring room is closed.
Children’s play area is closed.
Aquatic Center is closed.
