Several of the top teams play each other this weekend as only three weeks remain in the regular season. Rock Springs, Green River and Farson-Eden will all be in ranked battles.
Rock Springs is on the road and for the second time this season will face the top-ranked team in the state. There was a change at the top last week as Gillette beat Sheridan. The Tigers lost to Sheridan in a close battle at home.
Gillette has had the Tigers number winning the last 14 against Rock Springs. The Camels have the top offense in 4A averaging just under 400 yards a game. Rock Springs is second with 363. While the Tigers have the top rushing offense in the conference, Gillette brings both a solid rushing and passing attack ranking third in both.
As a defense, Gillette is ranked second overall only allowing 241 yards per game. The Tigers bring the top-ranked rushing defense but have struggled a bit against the pass. Rock Springs is fourth overall in team defense.
Green River Wolves
The Green River Wolves and the Star Valley Braves will be ready to hit Friday night in a rematch of last year’s state title game. Green River took over the top spot in the rankings after Star Valley lost to Powell last week. The Braves have won the last five including last year’s title championship game.
Expect a lot of running as the two teams are first and second in 3A in offensive rushing yards. The Wolves have a better passing offense which puts Green River second in total team offense while the Braves rank fourth. Star Valley is tough against the run with the best rushing defense in the conference. SVHS is third in total team defense while Green River is fifth.
Farson-Eden Pronghorns
In 6-man Football, Farson-Eden took over the top spot after Meeteetse fell to Burlington last week. This week, the two teams will face each other in Farson. Meeteetse has won the last four games against the Pronghorns and six of the last seven.
Farson-Eden brings the best rushing attack in 6-man into Saturday’s contest. Overall, they are 11th in team offense in the conference. Meeteese has a much more balanced offense using both the run and the pass effectively. The Longhorns are fourth overall in total team offense in the conference.
Defensively, both teams are balanced. The Pronghorns only allow 154 yards per game while Meeteese is eighth overall allowing 257 per.
