CHEYENNE – U.S. Attorney Christopher A. Crofts announced on Thursday that on August 25, Susan Chippewa, 28, of Arapahoe, and Byron Spoonhunter, 23, of Ethete, were sentenced by Federal District Court Judge Scott W. Skavdahl for first degree felony murder.

Chippewa received 35 years imprisonment and Spoonhunter was sentenced to 26 years. Each were ordered to serve five years of supervised release upon release from custody, and to pay a $100 special assessment and restitution in the amount of $6,820.46, joint and several with co-defendants in this case.

Chippewa and Spoonhunter were sentenced for their role in the murder of Jared Little Whiteman which took place on June 3, 2014, on the Wind River Indian Reservation.

This case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation with substantial assistance of the Bureau of Indian Affairs and the Wyoming Division of Criminal Investigation.
