UW Edged by Colorado College 2-1 in Overtime

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Sophomore defender Alisha Bass scored the lone goal for the Cowgirls on Sunday as they fell to the Colorado College Tigers in overtime at Stewart Field.

The goal came from a penalty kick in the 36th minute of play and proved to be her first goal of the season. The Tigers’ Sarah Schweiss headed a ball past freshman goalkeeper Cassidy Entsminger in the 97th minute of the match to give CC the win. The first goal of the afternoon came from Anne-Sophie Lapointe in the 25th minute of the match.

Wyoming drops to 6-3-3 on the year and 2-2-0 in conference play.

UW’s offense stayed strong throughout regulation as the Cowgirls outshot the Tigers 19-6. Sophomore forward Shaina Ashouri led Wyoming in shots with four. Forwards Kaitlyn Lomsnes and Laurel Ramer each had three, as junior defender Sammi Dunda and sophomore midfielder Summer Halle each tallied two shots.

Defenders Bass, Katie Marcheso and Alyssa Murray, midfielder Annika Clayton and forward Anne Hinman each notched one shot of their own.

“It’s unfortunate to have so many shots and not be able to put one in the back of the net,” Cuadrado added. “That’s what the game comes down to though. Outside of that, I think we played good soccer today.”

The Cowgirl defense only allowed six shots during the match. Goalkeepers Georgia Rowntree and Entsminger recorded a total of three saves throughout the match. Rowntree came away with two saves as Entsminger had one.

Wyoming will return to the Louis S. Madrid Sports Complex on Friday to take on the New Mexico Lobos. Kickoff is set for 3 p.m. MT.

 

 

 

 

Cowboys Take Second Place at the Cowboy Southern Dunes

Wyoming finishes fall season

MARICOPA, Ariz. – The University of Wyoming men’s golf team turned in a stellar score of 288 (E) during Sunday’s final round of the Cowboy Southern Dunes.

The Cowboys finished the tournament with a score of 865 (+1), which was enough to take home second place. The Cowboys were paced senior Kamrin Allen as he notched a final score of 215 (-1). He fired a 73 (+1) in the last round of the tournament to finish in fourth place.

“Today was an exceptional par for the team,” UW head coach Joe Jensen said. “It was a very windy day but we hung in there and ended the fall season with a good round.”

The Cowboys second-place finish was the best by Wyoming this fall season. Junior Ryan Wallen tied for the 10th place spot after shooting a final round of 74 (+2).

Sophomore Drew McCullough carded a 69 (-3) in the final round to finish tied for 13thQuintin Pope hit a 75 (+3) in his final round of play, tying him for 15th. Sophomore Glenn Workman rounded out the day for the Cowboys as he turned in a 72 (E) to wrap up tournament play in 22nd place at 222 (+6).

“The wind played a big role today, ” Jensen added. “Drew shot extremely well, getting a -2, considering the circumstances.

Sophomore Arron Lickteig and freshman John Murdock played as individuals for the last tournament of the fall season. Lickteig finished the tournament at 223 (+7), to place him in the 23rd spot. Murdock finalized his day shooting a 232 (+16), ending in 38th place.

Idaho walked away with the team title as it finished the tournament with a score of 860 (-4). Wyoming followed in second-place. San Francisco finished third with an 874 (+10). Grand Canyon followed with a score of 876 (+12). UC Riverside rounded out the top-five at 886 (+22).

Arizona State’s Nicolo Galletti won the individual crown by carding a 206 (-10) for the tournament, as he won the event by six strokes.

“We want to give credit to the exceptional staff at the Southern Dunes. The property is a great venue with the PGA school starting there this week.” – UW  Head Coach Joe Jensen.

Wyoming will return to action Feb. 2, 2016, at the Ram LMU-Higgins Memorial Invitational in Lake Las Vegas, Nev.

Second Day of Colorado State Invitational Cancelled

UW resumes fall season on Oct. 14

COLLINS, Colo. – Due to inclement weather on Sunday, the second day of the Colorado State Invitational for the Wyoming women’s tennis team was cancelled. The tournament date will not be rescheduled.

Four Cowgirls were scheduled to participate in both singles and doubles against Colorado State and Northern Colorado.

UW will resume its fall season on Wednesday, Oct. 14 at the ITA Mountain Championships in Las Vegas, Nev.
