Wamsutter will celebrate its centennial Saturday June 28

 

WAMSUTTER — The Centennial Celebration will kick off with a Fighting 4 Life 3K / 5K walk / run. Registration starts at 8:30 am at the city park and the event starts at 9:30 am. The event is in honor of Ken Waldner, a former Mayor and Councilman who succumbed to cancer.

The parade will start at 11am with line-up  starting at 10:15.  The route will run from the base of the overpass, up McCormick and will end just past the Wamsutter Motel.

Following the parade will be Tour the Town and activities in the park. Activities include face painting, a dunk tank and a bouncy castle. Food vendors will be available. Then, at 1 pm the Pit Stop Challenge will start at the tennis courts in City Park. This is for teams of four, age 13 and up. You must register a city park by 12:45 and prizes are available. The Money Pit, for kids 12 and under, also starts at 1 pm and there are prizes. Desert Golf, for ages 13 and up, gets underway at 1:30 and again, prizes are available.

At 2pm there will be vendors and displays at Wamsutter School. Vendors include AdvoCare, Nature Photos and BLM History.

The Hippity Hop Rodeo gets underway on the North Ball Field at 2:30. There will be timed events for all age groups with prizes to be awarded.

At 4 pm there will be a welcoming and recognition reception in the large tent on the South Ball Field. Dignitaries and Sponsors will be recognized. The raffle drawing will take place as well as the History Hunt. A buffet dinner follows at 5 pm. It will be catered by Sante Fe Trail Grill and is sponsored by BP.

Live music and dancing will take place on the basketball court from 7 to 10 pm. Locked and Loaded will be performing.

At 10 pm a fireworks display to music will be put on by TNT. It is sponsored by the town of Wamsutter.
