ROCK SPRINGS — Chief Mike Lowell and the members of the Rock Springs Police Department wish to remind everyone again that schools are back in session. We would like to caution the public that ALL the school zones will be strictly enforced and that School crossing guards will be present at specific locations to help the youngsters across the busy roadways. Please be cautious and courteous in these areas.
Also to be aware of school busses that stop to pick up and drop off students, whether it be at a school, or a neighborhood bus stop. Please be mindful that it is unsafe and also illegal to pass a school bus presenting flashing red lights and a stop sign anytime and from either direction.
Rock Springs Municipal Ordinance: 5-201a, 31-5-507a, Meeting or passing stopped schools busses
The driver of a vehicle upon meeting or overtaking from either direction any stopped school bus shall stop before reaching the school bus when there is in operation on the school bus the flashing red lights as specified in W.S. 31-5-929 and the driver shall not proceed until the school bus resumes motion or the flashing red lights are no longer actuated.
The Rock Springs Police Department would like to ensure all children make it to school and back home safely. Please stop for all school busses displaying flashing red lights. Please take your time, slow down, and be aware of our community’s most precious resource.
