GREEN RIVER — After getting its first taste of live competition in last week’s scrimmage, the Green River Wolves will open the regular season Friday night when they host the Rawlins Outlaws at Wolves Stadium.
Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m., with TRN Media’s pregame coverage beginning at 6 p.m. TRN Media’s Erick Pauley will have the call. Fans can listen on 104.9 FM or 1490 AM KUGR, or watch the free live HD video stream on The Radio Network’s Facebook page.
The matchup will be Green River’s first official game under first-year head coach Brennan Walk, who takes over the program after spending the previous six seasons at Mountain View. Walk served as the Buffalos’ offensive coordinator during last year’s undefeated Class 2A state championship season.

The Wolves are coming off a controlled scrimmage against Mountain View last week in which both teams received 36 offensive and 36 defensive reps. Mountain View, fresh off its state championship season, found the end zone twice in the scrimmage, while Green River worked through its new systems and gained valuable experience against one of the state’s top 2A programs.
Now, the Wolves turn their attention to Rawlins.
Rawlins enters Friday’s matchup at 1-0 after opening its season with a 21-8 win over Burns, a 2A opponent. The Outlaws will provide Green River with its first official test after the Wolves spent the past several weeks preparing for the season under a new coaching staff.
Green River enters the season looking to build on a major step forward from a year ago. The Wolves reached the playoffs for the first time since 2017 in 2025, finishing the season with a 31-13 loss to Riverton in the postseason.
Much of that team has moved on, including quarterback Max Hintz, wide receiver Dax Taylor and kicking specialist and wide receiver Braxton Doak. The Wolves will look to returning players to help carry that momentum forward.
Green River has several players who drew attention during the offseason, including Noah Hemphill at wide receiver and defensive back, Valentine Plancarte on the offensive and defensive lines, Irie Kuball at receiver and defensive back, and Jake Stanton at tight end and linebacker.
Quinton Brown, Dom Hamel and Izik Gardea are among the players expected to contribute on both sides of the ball, while the Wolves will look to establish the physical and disciplined identity Walk has emphasized since taking over the program.
Friday’s matchup also brings back memories of last season’s meeting between the two teams.
Green River defeated Rawlins 45-0 last September for its first victory of the 2025 season. The Wolves scored early and never looked back, building a 31-0 halftime advantage before adding two more touchdowns in the second half. The Wolves’ defense held Rawlins to just 55 rushing yards and 15 passing yards in that game.
This year’s matchup, however, begins with a clean slate. Green River will be looking to translate the work from its offseason and last week’s scrimmage into its first official victory of the season, while Rawlins will try to build on its opening-week win.
