RIVERTON – After the first day of Wyoming’s biggest wrestling tournament, Green River is in second with many Wolves still alive.

Gillette is in first overall with 130 points but Green River is right there in second with 97.5 points. Powell, Star Valley and Sheridan round out the top five. The Tigers did not have the opening day they had hoped for as they sit in 32 overall.

Green River has several opportunities for individual titles on Saturday. Cyro Montoya has made it to the semifinals at 106 and is joined by Cole Verner who will make a run for the title at 120.

At 138, Colton Hopkins looked strong as he moved to the semifinals with three wins on Friday. Shandon Welsh went 2-0 on Friday to earn his spot in the semis.At 182, Hunter Hanks went 3-0 on Friday with two wins by pin as he sits in the semifinals..

At 113 Nathan McCann is in the consolation quarterfinals and at 195, Brendan Hopkins lost in the quarters but rebounded with a win in the consolation bracket and will continue to battle on Saturday.

 

Rock Springs

For Rock Springs, Danny Macy is the lone Tiger still alive at 113. He had two wins including a win in the quarters over Green River’s McCann.

Also at 113, Trevor Ryan was the other Tigers who had a win on Friday. Ryan made his way into the quarterfinals but suffered a loss. He could not recover as he lost his next match in the consolation bracket.
