GREEN RIVER – As the finish line to another swimming season is right around the corner, high school swimmers are making a final push to get ready for state. The Green River Wolves made a big statement in a busy week of action bringing home wins at the Lyman Invite and their home meet.
Lyman Invite
The Wolves scored 305 points to take the title from the Rock Springs Tigers who finished with 281 points. Lyman, Sublette and Evanston rounded out the top five.
Individually, the Wolves brought home titles in three events with Michael Richmond winning two. He took the 50 free with a time of 23:15 and also the 100 butterfly with a 55.87. Keyan Moore led a strong diving effort with a first-place finish scoring 234.85. Coleton Spalding, Miles Moffat and Alejandro Grajeda all finished in the top ten in Lyman in diving.
Several other Wolves came close to taking home top honors. Brendan Bloomquist was two seconds off the top spot finishing second in the 200 free with a time of 2:00.84. Dean Lyon had another solid meet with a second in the 500 free and third in the 200 IM. Logan Johnson came in third in the 100 breaststroke while Lane Hutchison was just behind Lyon in the 200 IM finishing in fourth.
Green River Invite
At the Green River Invite on Saturday, the Wolves again dominated scoring 354 points. Rock Springs was a distant second with 263 followed by Lyman who scored 239 points. Sublette County and Kemmerer rounded out the team finishes.
Richmond scored two more wins, one coming in the 200 IM and the other in the 50 free. Brendan Bloomquist swam a qualifying time of 1:01.94 to take the 100 breaststroke title while Moore wrapped up the title run with another win in the 1-meter diving competition. The Wolves took four of the top five places in diving with Coleton Spalding finished second, Moffat fourth and Grajeda finished fifth.
