Wolves Take Regional Tennis Title

GREEN RIVER — The Green River Wolves tennis team enjoyed a home 2022 4A South Regional Tennis Tournament that was hosted in Rock Springs and Green River.

The two-day tournament featured eight teams. Green River finished the regional tournament strong with the boys team capturing the regional title and girls teams finishing fifth place overall.

On the boys team, Zach Friel and Taylon Tirrell reached the number one doubles championship game against Cheyenne Central. Central fell to the Wolves 6-1, 6-3.

David Ross and Chris Wilson followed up with their own championship victory in the number two doubles against Laramie. Ross and Wilson defeated Callahan and Hepworth 6-2, 6-7, 6-3.

Headlining the girls team was Malea Gomez and Lily Harris in the number two doubles. Gomez and Harris reached the consolation championship game, defeating Rock Springs’ Ellie Alldredge and Kyndall Turnwell 6-1, 6-4.

Head Coach Phillip Harder was recognized as the 2022 4A South Region Boys Tennis Coach of the Year.

Green River will head to the state tournament next week.
