GREEN RIVER — The Green River High School and Rock Springs High School cross country teams will open their varsity seasons Friday with a Sweetwater County battle at Stratton-Myers Park.
The Green River Invitational is scheduled to begin at noon with the girls race, followed by the boys race at 12:30 p.m.

The meet marks the first varsity competition of the season for both Green River and Rock Springs, giving runners from both schools an early opportunity to test themselves against their county rival.
With Rock Springs as the only other team competing, the meet will have a different feel from a typical invitational featuring several schools. Instead, the Wolves and Tigers will go head-to-head throughout the races.
For Green River, the meet also carries added significance as the Wolves’ only home meet of the season. Competing at Stratton-Myers Park gives Green River runners the chance to race in front of their hometown supporters while beginning the season on familiar ground.

The meet will be part of a busy Friday of varsity athletics in Green River. The Green River tennis team will host Kelly Walsh and Natrona at the Green River High School and Lincoln Middle School courts at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. The Wolves football team will host Mountain View in a live scrimmage-style event at 6 p.m. at Wolves Stadium.
