ROCK SPRINGS — Wyoming Department of Transportation crews will be closing the interstate tomorrow night at midnight for two hours to remove a flange from the damaged girder on the Gookin overpass bridge. The work will take place at night to limit the disruption to traffic.
Traffic will be routed off the interstate at exits 99 if eastbound and 102 if westbound. Traffic will then be diverted to the Sunset Drive Service Road and onto the Foothill Blvd. Service Road and back onto the interstate.
The Gookin overpass bridge was closed due to damages caused by a truck carrying a track hoe on the interstate that made contact with the bridge after attempting to pass under it, damaging the girders.
The bridge has been closed and will remain closed until WYDOT crews can further inspect and evaluate the structural integrity of the bridge.
The bridge connects the Foothill Blvd. service road to the Sunset Drive service road on the west end of Rock Springs.
WYDOT would like to remind drivers to slow down in work zones and be alert and cautious of roadside workers. For more information on road construction, closures and weather conditions, please visit https://www.wyoroad.info.
