Wyoming election director named to national election board

CHEYENNE – Secretary of State Ed Murray announced that Peggy Nighswonger, Wyoming State Election Director, was recently elected to the nine-member Executive Board of the U.S. Election Assistance Commission (EAC) Standards Board at a meeting held in Williamsburg, VA, on April 28-29, 2015.

The EAC Standards Board meeting was the first following a suspension of activity. The Standards Board comprises 110 members, including 55 state election officials and 55 local election officials. Albany County Clerk Jackie Gonzales is Wyoming’s other representative on the 110-member body.

“It is an honor and a privilege to have been elected by my peers to this prestigious board,” said Nighswonger.

Nighswonger previously chaired the EAC Standards Board’s Executive Board in 2006 when it was formulating and implementing voting system standards for election equipment used throughout the United States. Nighswonger has served as Wyoming State Election Director since 1996.
