CHEYENNE, Wyo. — Wyoming has a 4% state sales tax. Counties are able to add 1% to sales tax collections with voter approval, sometimes referred to as the “fifth penny.”
On an introductory vote during their Tuesday, Feb. 11 meeeting, the Wyoming House of Representatives approved a bill that would allow counties to make the “fifth penny” permanent.

That preliminary approval sends the bill to the Revenue Committee for further consideration.
