Wyoming Man Sentenced for Assaulting a Federal Officer in 2014

CHEYENNE – U.S. Attorney for the District of Wyoming Christopher A. Crofts announced a Northern Arapaho Tribal Member was sentenced for a 2014 assault on a federal officer.

On April 23, 2015, Jakota Allen Wolfname, a 24-year-old Northern Arapaho Tribal Member, was sentenced for forcibly resisting and interfering with a federal officer in connection with an incident on February 10, 2014. According to Crofts, the incident involved the defendant assaulting a Bureau of Indian Affairs Officer while the officer was attempting to lawfully arrest the defendant.

Wolfname was found guilty of having physical contact with the officer during the assault.

Wolfname was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Scott Skavdahl to 24 months imprisonment, three years of supervised release, no fine and a $100 special assessment. Wolfname was also ordered to pay $819 in restitution for some of the officer’s medical costs associated with the injuries he sustained during the assault.

This case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation with the assistance of the Bureau of Indian Affairs.
