Wyoming Reaches New All-Time High COVID-19 Hospitalizations

CHEYENNE — The Wyoming Department of Health (WDH) is reporting 249 COVID-19 Coronavirus hospitalizations on October 21, marking a new all-time high for the state.

Previously, the highest number of hospitalizations the state had at one time was 247 patients on November 30, 2020.

In August, the state started seeing a steep incline in hospitalizations and August 12 was the last time Wyoming has seen hospitalizations below 100 patients. One year ago on October 21, 2020, the state had 78 COVID-19 hospitalizations. One month ago on September 21, the state had 190 hospitalizations.

Wyoming Medical Center in Casper has the most COVID-19 hospitalizations with 66 patients. Cheyenne Regional Medical Center is next for the most patients with 34, followed by Campbell County Memorial Hospital with 23 patients. Memorial Hospital of Sweetwater County (MHSC) currently has nine patients, according to the WDH.

The WDH is also reporting that Wyoming Medical Center has just one ICU bed available out of 20, and Cheyenne Regional Medical Center has seven of 25 ICU beds available. MHSC is reported to have two of 10 ICU beds available.

According to the WDH, Wyoming currently has 2,553 active COVID-19 cases, and has had 80,012 confirmed cases, 76,546 case recoveries, and 1,149 deaths since the start of the pandemic.

Sweetwater County is reported to have 130 active cases, and has had 6,754 confirmed cases, 6,575 case recoveries, and 79 deaths since the start of the pandemic.

As for vaccinations, the state has administered a total of 497,456 vaccines. Of those, 241,881 have been first doses of the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines, 214,837 have been second doses of Pfizer and Moderna, and 20,732 have been booster doses. The other 20,006 vaccines have been the Janssen vaccine.

As of October 18, the WDH reported that 39.1 percent of Wyoming’s population has been vaccinated.
