CHEYENNE — Wyoming saw 58 COVID-19 related hospitalizations statewide on May 24 this week, which is a number the state hasn’t seen since January. However this was short lived as the numbers continued to decrease throughout the remainder of the week.
According to the latest Wyoming Department of Health (WDH) hospitalization report, Wyoming currently has 45 COVID-19 related hospitalizations statewide. However, the state did see as many as 58 virus-related hospitalizations earlier this week. The last time the state saw virus-related numbers in the fifties was at the end of January of 2021. Last Friday, Wyoming was reporting 43 COVID-19 related hospitalizations.
According to the White House COVID-19 Task Force, Wyoming had a 2.5 percent 14-day positivity rate from May 13-26. This keeps Wyoming in the “yellow zone,” which means the state has moderate transmission levels.
The state had a 2.9 percent 14-day positivity rate from May 6-19, so the most recent report has seen a slight decrease.
The WDH’s May 21 vaccination report shows that as of today, Wyoming has received 452,225 total doses of the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines, and has administered 186,239 first doses of them, and 164,842 second doses.
The state is reporting it has administered 12,796 doses of 26,600 doses received for the single-dose Johnson and Johnson (Janssen) vaccine.
The WDH reports there have been 50,697 lab-confirmed COVID-19 cases, 49,674 case recoveries, and 719 deaths since the pandemic started in Wyoming. That means six deaths were recorded this week. The state currently has 9,447 probable cases and 401 active cases compared to 421 active cases last Friday.
Sweetwater County
The White House COVID-19 Task Force shows that Sweetwater County had a 6.8 percent 14-day positivity rate from May 13-26, which is about the same as last week. This keeps Sweetwater County in the “orange zone” meaning the county’s transmission levels are moderate to high.
The WDH’s May 27 hospitalization report shows Memorial Hospital of Sweetwater County (MHSC) has one COVID-19 related hospitalization.
According to the WDH, Sweetwater County has had 4,304 lab-confirmed cases, 4,210 case recoveries, and 39 deaths since the start of the pandemic. There are currently 192 probable cases and 61 active cases. Last Friday, Sweetwater County had 65 active cases.
