SWEETWATER COUNTY – YWCA is pleased to announce they are the recipient of a Red Rover Safe Housing grant. Founded in 1987, the mission of RedRover is to bring animals out of crisis and strengthen the bond between people and animals through emergency sheltering, disaster relief services, financial assistance and education. Through the Sweetwater County Family Justice Center, a program of YWCA, victims of all forms of family violence receive the support and resources necessary to remove themselves from a violent situation. The Safe House is a 24-hour service with basic necessities for victims and their families. A 24-hour crisis line is also provided.

Together with Sheltering Animals and Families Together (SAF-T), RedRover Domestic Violence Safe Housing grants enable organizations that provide emergency sheltering for victims of domestic violence to create space to house pets of domestic violence victims on-site with their families where little to no pet housing was previously available. Grants are intended to bridge a critical gap in funding to enable the pet housing project to begin and provide the necessary accommodations for victims fleeing violent situations.

“All of us at Sweetwater County Family Justice Center and YWCA are excited to partner with Red Rover and SAF-T to remove yet another barrier for victims of family violence by providing a pet-friendly shelter,” Lauren Schoenfeld, YWCA Executive Director said.
