ROCK SPRINGS – No matter what sport it may be, the saying “wait until the tournament” or “the tournament is a brand new season” can be heard throughout the year. On Thursday, Rock Springs Archie Hay Post 24 showed everyone why.
Rock Springs Archie Hay Post 24 pulled a huge upset in the opening game of the south tournament taking place here in Rock Springs. Post 24 took the field Thursday morning to face off against the No. 1 team from the Southeast, the Torrington Tigers. Rock Springs offense exploded for 18 runs as they downed the top team from the southeast 18-7.
The No. 1 ranked team in the southwest, the Green River Knights, was scheduled to face Guernsey later tonight but has moved into the second round due to a Guernsey forfeit.
Archie Hay Post 24 will play in one semi-final on Friday at 7 p.m. and will play the winner of the Evanston/Rawlins game. The Knights will play in the other semi at 4 p.m. and will face the winner of the Riverton/Laramie matchup.
A Friday win for Rock Springs and Green River qualifies them for the state tournament.
