ROCK SPRINGS — Battling freezing temperatures, strong winds and blowing snow, the Rock Springs girls soccer team stayed within striking distance throughout but ultimately fell 3-2 to Jackson on Thursday, while the Tigers boys dropped a 10-0 match against the top-ranked team in Class 4A.
In difficult weather conditions that saw temperatures dip into the teens with wind chill and snow blowing for much of the girls match, Rock Springs showed resilience, responding multiple times to stay competitive against one of the state’s top programs.
Jackson struck early, scoring in the fourth minute to take a 1-0 lead. Rock Springs answered in the 33rd minute when Tahlia Knudsen found the net to even the match at 1-1.

Jackson regained the lead late in the first half with a goal in the 37th minute, taking a 2-1 advantage into the break.
The Lady Tigers responded again early in the second half. Off a corner kick, the ball deflected off the goalkeeper’s hands and into the net, with Knudsen credited for the goal in the 42nd minute to tie the match at 2-2.
Jackson pulled ahead for good in the 59th minute, making it 3-2.
Despite the loss, Rock Springs’ defense held firm over the final 20 minutes, limiting additional scoring chances and keeping the match within reach. Goalkeeper Paige Tongate recorded multiple saves down the stretch as the Lady Tigers fought to stay in the game, though they were unable to find an equalizer.
In the boys match, Jackson set the tone early, scoring three goals in the first 10 minutes and continuing to build its lead throughout the game.
Jackson added another goal in the 42nd minute to take a 4-0 lead into halftime, then continued its offensive pressure in the second half, eventually extending the lead to 10-0.

The Pitt Construction Player of the Game was Rock Springs goalkeeper Paige Tongate, whose performance, along with the defensive effort in front of her, helped keep the girls match close despite challenging conditions and a strong Jackson attack.
