Passenger Traffic Growth Continues At RKS In 2019

United Express flights from the Southwest Wyoming Regional airport will be reduced to one per day beginning April 1.

ROCK SPRINGS — The Southwest Wyoming Regional Airport is off to a great start in 2019 in terms of passenger numbers, according to A.A.E. Airport Director Devon Brubaker.

Brubaker has released the passenger number statistics for January and February 2019, and if these numbers remain consistent, the airport could be in for a record year.

January and February traffic was up 33.75% on a year over year basis, according to the report. Passenger traffic grew 23.61% in January 2019 compared to 2018. The numbers were even better in February with a 45.66% increase in 2019 over 2018.

This growth in early 2019 is building upon the successes seen in 2017 and 2018 where the airport experienced 11.73% and 32.18% year over year increases, respectively. January and February were the 25th and 26th consecutive months of passenger growth for the airport.

Strong community support, additional capacity, improved airfares, free parking and continued industry-beating airline operational reliability have all played roles in the continuation of sustained passenger growth, which began in January of 2017.

“We are pleased to see this positive trend continue into 2019, especially given our strong traffic numbers in 2017 and 2018,” said Brubaker. “Passenger demand is a critical factor when speaking with airlines regarding improving and increasing air service to our region.”

“Our airline partner has added capacity at RKS and our customers have utilized it. We appreciate the support of our community choosing to fly RKS. Carriers will not add additional service to a market if the current service is not being used.”

This year the airport is already on pace to have the best year on record for passenger traffic beating 2012, 2011, and 2018 which currently rank one, two, and three, respectively.

Passengers are reminded to arrive 90 minutes before their flight to ensure a stress-free experience. With the fuller flights, this is more critical then ever to ensure an on-time departure with all scheduled passengers.
