ROCK SPRINGS — Leg warmers, neon colors, parachute pants and big hair will be making a comeback this Saturday at an upcoming Dance Party, sponsored by Just Dance Studio’s Competition Team. Students in fifth through eighth grades are invited to attend and experience a radical time at the event, which will be held from 6-9 pm, Feb. 22nd, at the Rock Springs Community Center, located at 538 Pilot Butte Ave.
The dance party is a fundraiser for her studio’s competition team, said Jessie Yeager, owner of Just Dance. “Like any sport, it can get expensive paying for registration fees, out-of-town travel and costumes. This dance party is a creative way for the competition team dancers to earn money to help pay their own way,” Yeager explained.
Those attending the event can look forward to an evening of awesome music, dancing, contests and a chance to win prizes, Yeager said. It will cost $7 per child to attend, with all proceeds going to the competition team dancers for upcoming dance competitions. Pizza and soft drinks will also be available that evening for a low price and many adult chaperones will be on hand for the event, Yeager advised.
“The dancers are excited about this event and are working hard to prepare for upcoming competitions,” Yeager said. She stresses that although the event theme is 80s, attendees don’t have to wear items to reflect that era.
This event is not the only way the competition dancers have earned money for their team, Yeager said. “They put on a haunted house the week of Halloween. It was amazing what a great job they did in decorating and performing every night. I was really proud of them.”
In addition to helping earn their own way, dancers have been active in volunteering in the community. “They have helped with fundraisers for cancer victims, Memorial Hospital’s Red Tie Gala and sponsored a 5K Walk/Run last year to help a local family with increasing medical costs,” Yeager explained. “They also made 120 blankets that we took and donated to patients at the Shriner’s Hospital in Salt Lake.”
“Our competition dance team is a close-knit group,” Yeager said, “The girls don’t just dance together – they work together to achieve their goals and help others, too.”
