PINEDALE — A Santa Cruz, CA man turned himself in to the Sublette County Sheriff’s Office on a warrant for vehicular homicide March 18, and now awaits a preliminary Circuit Court hearing in April.
Alex Smith was involved in a two-car collision near Bondurant on July 14, 2020, and was subsequently life-flighted from the scene for his injuries, according to SCSO Public Information Officer Travis Bingham.
A warrant was subsequently obtained after the accident when the other driver succumbed to injuries, and driver impairment has been alleged on Smith’s part.
Bingham said Smith turned himself in on the warrant on March 18, and has subsequently bonded out of jail.
A preliminary hearing has been set in Sublette County Circuit Court on April 19 at 10 AM.
This is the second vehicular homicide arrest in 2021 resulting from a head-on collision in the Hoback Canyon. A Thayne, WY woman was arrested following an accident on New Year’s Day which claimed the life of a 39-year-old Pinedale man.
