SCSD No. 2 Approves New Rules For E-Bikes on School Grounds

GREEN RIVER — The Sweetwater County School District No. 2 Board of Trustees approved several items at its first meeting of the new school year Tuesday night, including new rules for e-bikes on school grounds.

The board approved updates to student handbooks across the district addressing e-bikes, e-scooters, and similar devices on school property. Anne Marie Covey, the district’s central office director, told the board the change was prompted by community concern over the growing presence of e-bikes around town.

Covey said the district cannot regulate e-bike use off school grounds but the updated language requires students to wear helmets and dismount and walk the bikes while on school property.

Superintendent Scott Cooper discussed an approval to go out for bid on construction of a greenhouse at Expedition Academy High School.

Cooper said the project is largely funded through an anonymous donation that covered the cost of the greenhouse kit itself. Remaining work includes concrete construction, installation of the greenhouse structure, and connecting it to electrical service. The request to go out for bid was approved unanimously.

The district also discussed switching its activities and sports fundraising system from PayPal QR codes to a platform called Success Fund. Katie Harder, the district’s business manager and finance director, told the board the change follows district policy barring teachers and coaches from using personal Venmo accounts for fundraising.

Harder said Success Fund is used by other Wyoming school districts, is free for the district to use, and allows teachers and coaches to set up and manage their own fundraising campaigns and generate their own reports.
