ROCK SPRINGS — The Rock Springs High School cross country team will return to its home course Friday when it hosts the Tough Pumpkin Invite at White Mountain Golf Course.
The meet is scheduled for 3 p.m. Oct. 2 and will bring eight visiting teams to Rock Springs. Along with host Rock Springs, the field includes Arapaho Charter, Evanston, Fort Washakie, Green River, Rawlins, Saratoga, St. Stephens and Wind River.
The meet will mark the first cross country competition in Sweetwater County since Green River hosted Rock Springs on Aug. 28 at Stratton-Myers Park.
Rock Springs swept the team titles at the Green River meet. Aria Wheeler won the girls race for the Tigers in 21 minutes, 16.04 seconds, while Green River’s Jesse Kimble won the boys race in 18:09.96.
Green River’s Adri Curtis placed third in the girls race, while Green River senior Hunter Rushing finished fourth in the boys competition. Rock Springs placed four runners in the girls top five and three in the boys top five.
Friday’s meet will bring the Sweetwater County rivals back together while adding seven other programs to the field. The competition also gives Rock Springs the opportunity to race on its home course against a larger field as the regular season continues into October.
