BAGGS WYOMING —On July 2 the Baggs Mule Deer Herd (BMDH) Working Group will be touring a variety of mule deer habitats near Baggs. The group will use the information gathered on the field tour to help them write a habitat management plan for the Baggs mule deer herd.
Baggs Wildlife Biologist Tony Mong says the field trip is open to the public, as well; however, participants will have to provide their own lunch and, possibly, their own transportation based upon vehicle availability.
“The field trip is being conducted for the working group members and is also open to anyone who wants to attend and learn more about mule deer habitat in the Baggs area,” Mong said. “This field tour will be a full day of traveling to a variety of mule deer habitats in order to provide as much information to working group members, so they can develop the habitat management plan for the Baggs herd. We will be touring winter range sites west of Baggs, juniper, service berry and aspen habitat treatment sites, riparian areas, mule deer migration stop-over sites, summer range and sage brush die-off areas. Anyone attending the field tour should plan on bringing a four-wheel drive vehicle, lunch, water and prepare for any inclement weather.”
The working group is made up of a variety of stakeholders, who all share an interest in the management of the BMDH (deer hunt areas 82, 84, and 100). The group is volunteering their time to identify challenges and issues with the BMDH and explore options to benefit the herd. For more information call Tony Mong at 307-383-2042.
