ROCK SPRINGS – Anyone growing up in Wyoming will never forget going fishing for the first time. Putting the slimy worm on the hook, the adrenaline rush when you feel the fish on the line and the pure excitement when you land that first fish.
For 30 years, the Rock Springs Park and Recreation Department has given first-time fishermen this experience while parents get the opportunity to enjoy another memory made. On June 4, to go along with free fishing day in Wyoming, Rock Springs will again host the Huck Finn Fishing Derby.
The derby starts at 9 a.m. at the Paul J. Wataha Recreation Area pond. The excitement will run until noon.
There will be prizes awarded for the longest fish, smallest fish, largest fish per pound and total weight of all fish caught. There will also be a lure casting competition which will take place during the fishing derby.
Registration will begin at 8:30 a.m. There will be age divisions at the derby, 3- to 7-years-old and 8- to 12-years-old.
