GREEN RIVER – Groups around Sweetwater County continue to try find unique ways to keep the younger members of the community engaged in positive choices and a healthy lifestyle. One of these programs in Green River received a boost this past weekend.
On Saturday night, The Eagles Sweetwater 2350 presented the Green River Police Department School Resource Officer program with a $2,000 check to assist with Camp P.O.S.T.C.A.R.D.
Camp POSTCARD (Peace Officers Striving To Create And Reinforce Dreams) is a free week long camp held at Casper Mountain, designed to benefit fifth and sixth graders. The camp is hosted by Volunteers of America and this past year, 10 youths from Green River attended camp along with two Green River Police Department SRO’s, Officer Yager and Officer Hutson.
At last year’s camp two of the youths were high school aged mentors who had previously attended the camp when they were in fifth or sixth grade. This year will be the seventh year the GRPD SRO’s have been to Camp POSTCARD and 48 youths from Green River have attended in the last six years.
GRPD Officials said the Eagles have always been a huge supporter of the GRPD and their generosity is greatly appreciated. Sweetwater 2350 was also celebrating their 75th Anniversary.
