Fast 5 Interview: Devon Brubaker

Airport Director Devon Brubaker

TELL US A LITTLE ABOUT YOURSELF.

I am the Airport Manager for the Rock Springs-Sweetwater County Airport Board. More importantly, I am the husband to my beautiful wife Jennifer and father to our four children – Jessica 20, Samantha 18, Brandon 17 and Haylee 5. I earned my Bachelors of Science in Aviation Management from the University of Dubuque and my Masters of Aeronautical Science in Aviation/Aerospace Management from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University. I am also an Accredited Airport Executive (AAE) with the American Association of Airport Executives. I have been working in the Airport industry for nearly 11 years and am blessed to go to work every day doing something that I love. It is my goal, as well as the rest of the Airport staff’s goal, to provide the best possible air travel experience for our community so that they can have an airport that is not just functional, but one that they can be proud of.

HOW LONG HAVE YOU LIVED IN SWEETWATER COUNTY?

My family and I relocated to Sweetwater County in May/June of this year from Arcanum, OH which is just outside of Dayton, OH. Prior to Dayton, we lived in North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Texas, Illinois, and Iowa. Outside of our hometowns, Sweetwater County by far has been the best place we have lived.

WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE THING TO DO OR SOMETHING UNIQUE ABOUT YOU?

Outside of aviation and airports, I am an avid baseball & football fan, especially when it comes to the Chicago Cubs, Chicago Bears and Penn State Nittany Lions. I enjoy spending time with my family and even more so here in Wyoming as we have been able to spend the summer weekends together exploring all it has to offer. Some of our favorite places so far are: Red Canyon (Flaming Gorge), Green River Lakes, Grand Teton National Park, Sinks Canyon and Yellowstone National Park. I’d be remiss if I didn’t mention a favorite stop as a family….Farson Mercantile as we all enjoy their “Big Cone”.

WHAT DO YOU THINK IS THE BEST PART OF LIVING IN SWEETWATER COUNTY?

I know that it is becoming redundant for each of the individuals who have participated in this Fast 5 Interview process to say this, but the single best part of Sweetwater County is the people. Take it from a family that lived in the South and enjoyed “Southern Hospitality”. The people here are so much nicer then in the South where it is expected.

In addition to the people, the natural beauty of the area and the accessibility to the many great attractions make this an ideal location to raise a family.

WHAT IS ONE TIP OR LIFE LESSON YOU HAVE LEARNED THAT YOU ARE WILLING TO SHARE?

On a professional level, I focus daily on the fact that without new ideas, success can become stale and not to rely on luck as a business model.

On a personal level, outside of the usual life lessons of staying true to yourself and treating others how you like to be treated, I believe that you must take personal responsibility. You cannot change the circumstances, the seasons, or the wind, but you can change yourself.
