Focus on Fitness series kicking off May 19 at library in Green River

GREEN RIVER – If you have always wanted to start an exercise program, but weren’t sure where to begin, the Sweetwater County Library has a program for you.

Focus on Fitness is a monthly series of programs which are set to begin at 6:30 p.m. May 19. “The purpose of this series it to introduce fitness classes to patrons, let them know what’s available and show them how to participate,” said Reference Librarian Bianca Jorgensen, who is setting up the classes.

Each session in the series will focus on a different type of exercise program. The library is partnering with the Green River Recreation Center and other exercise professionals in the area to put together this series.

The first class, which will be at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 19, will focus on Zumba and will be taught by Christine Peterson. Zumba is a Latin-inspired dance fitness class. It incorporates Latin music and dance movements to create a dynamic and effective fitness program. Peterson will give some background on Zumba and will teach participants the basics. Those planning to attend should wear comfortable clothes and be prepared to move.

The second class in the series will be on Tuesday, June 16 at 6:30 p.m. The class will be a Silver Sneakers program taught by Shannon Thomas. Silver Sneakers classes are appropriate for older adults who are fit and active as well as those who are sedentary and unfamiliar with exercise. That being said, the class is good for people of all ages.

The Focus on Fitness series will continue throughout the summer and into the fall. Class topics will be announced soon.

The Focus on Fitness series is sponsored by the Sweetwater County Library System.
